History | At 0013 hours on 13 February 1945, U-992 attacked the convoy JW-64 (29 ships, 22 escorts at various times) and reported a steamer damaged in position 69º20'N, 33º33'E. But the ship hit was the British corvette HMS Denbigh Castle (Lt.Cdr. Graham Butcher, DSC, RNR) which was towed by the British corvette HMS Bluebell and a Russian tug into the Kola Inlet. The ship was beached, but later capsized and was declared a total loss. 11 members of the crew lost their lives. Hit by U-boat |
