At 05.40 hours on 25 March 1940 the neutral Britta was hit in the forepart by one torpedo from U-47 and sank slowly about 40 miles northwest of Sule Skerry. The ship had been spotted at 04.30 hours and missed by a first torpedo at 05.19 hours. The survivors were picked up by the Danish steam merchant Nancy of the same company that sailed together with the ship and were taken to Swansea.
