|History||Completed in August 1918 as Swedish Ingrid Brodin for Erik Brodins Rederi A/B (E. Brodin), Torö. 1922 sold to Norway and renamed Eidshorn for Gorrissen & Co A/S, Oslo. 1927 sold to Sweden and renamed Ferro for P.G. Thulin, Stockholm. 1929 sold to Norway and renamed Kvernaas for Arnt J. Mørland, Arendal.|
On 29 Sep 1939, the neutral Kvernaas was stopped and searched by the German destroyer Wilhelm Heidkamp in 59°31N/06°18E. The ship was en route from Sundsvall to Amsterdam via Velzen with a cargo of 2585 tons of cellulose and was instructed to sail to Kiel. The freighter was stopped again at 00.59 hours on 30 September, this time by the German destroyer Hermann Künne. A prize crew was placed on board and the ship brought to Kiel, but the ship with cargo was released on 13 October.

At 02.05 hours on 17 Feb 1940 the unescorted and neutral Kvernaas (Master Ivar Sørensen) was hit by one torpedo from U-10 and sank within five minutes four miles northwest of Schouwen Bank, Netherlands. The crew abandoned ship in two lifeboats and was picked up after 4 hours by the Dutch steam merchant Oranjepolder. The vessel was en route to London, but turned back and landed the men at the pilot station in Hoek van Holland the next day.
