Albert Wanders abandoned ship in the lifeboat in charge of the chief officer when Gandia was sunk and was rescued by João Corte Real. He was injured in the sinking of Belgian Fighter and eventually lost when Astrida I foundered in a hurricane off South Africa on 19 March 1945.
