Arthur Reginald Bacon was posted to Beirut to man a wireless station there after surviving the sinking of HMS Barham and HMS Naiad. He met his future wife in Beirut and they married before he was transferred to Alexandria. The family returned to England two weeks after his daughter Pat was born at Beirut in July 1945.
