At 01.10 hours on 30 July 1942 the Pacific Pioneer (Master Hugh Campbell) in convoy ON-113 was torpedoed and sunk by U-132 southwest of Sable Island. The master, 58 crew members, eight gunners and four passengers were picked up by HMCS Calgary (K 231) (T/Lt H.K. Hill, RCNVR) and landed at Halifax.
