Operation Stone Age;
On 17 November 1942 a convoy of 4 merchants (MW-13) left Alexandria for Malta. This convoy was escorted by the British light cruisers HMS Arethusa, HMS Euryalus, HMS Dido and 10 destroyers.
On the 18th HMS Arethusa was hit by a aerial torpedo. She was heavily damaged and towed back to Alexandria.
The convoy arrived safe at Malta on the 20th. This meant the end of the Malta siege.

HMS Malaya (Capt. E.W. Bush, DSO and Bar, DSC, RN) departed Greenock for Portsmouth.
At 1500/28, she was joined by the destroyers HMCS Haida (Capt. H.G. De Wolf, DSO, RCN) and ORP Blyscawica (Cdr. K.F. Namiesniowski).
These destroyers were relieved at 0250/9 by the destroyers HMS Ulysses (Lt.Cdr. R.J. Hanson, DSO and Bar, DSC, RN) and HMS Vimy (Lt.Cdr. K.H.J Lynch Phibbs, RN).
HMS Malaya arrived at Portmouth in the afternoon of August, 29th. (4)

At HMS Malaya (Capt. E.W. Bush, DSO and Bar, DSC, RN) departed Portsmouth to bombard the island of Cézembre off Saint-Malo, France.
She was escorted by the destoyers HMS Grenville (Capt. H.P. Henderson, RN) and HMS Offa (Lt.Cdr. R.C. Biggs, DSO and Bar, DSC, RN).
The island was bombarded between 1119 and 1442/30. Malaya reported aving obtained hits on both battery positions and on the barracks. Course was then set to return to Portsmouth where they arrived around 0700/1.
The garrison on the island surrendered on 2 September 1944. (5)
